Alicia Jiménez, mayor of Mazarrón, and Manuel Sánchez, senior employer of the Fishermen's Association of Puerto de Mazarrón have renewed the collaboration agreement between both entities that aims to enhance the value of the fishing sector, favoring actions that contemplate the creation of tourism resources around work related to the marine environment and fisheries.
To this end, a municipal subsidy of 5,000 euros will be allocated.
This agreement has a validity period of one year, extendable by another.
The Fish Market of Puerto de Mazarrón is one of the most productive in the Region of Murcia, recently breaking its record in catches with days in which they came to account for more than 115,000 kilos of anchovy.
The Brotherhood develops its activity in the modalities of smaller arts, drag, fence and surface longline.
In 2016 it had a fishing production that reached 2,396,306 kilos. It is also one of the tourist attractions in the municipality, being attractive to the auction of fish.
In addition, after the investment of the local action group Galpemur, the Lonja de Puerto de Mazarrón offers a renewed image with a museum project that has allowed to renew the image of its facilities.
