The Councillor for Agriculture, Salvador Ardil, traveled Thursday to Almeria to participate in the "I Technical Seminar on Agriculture", organized by the Foundation Cajamar, in which the main theme has been the fruticulosa tropical and Mediterranean as an alternative crop.
The day was developed in the auditorium of the Experimental Station Cajamar Foundation in El Ejido (Almería).
The program has had different presentations: a 'potential of fruit growing in the province of Almeria' by Julian Cuevas González de la Universidad de Almería, another on 'Production of Japanese medlar early areas' by Juan José Bone Experimental Station Cajamar Foundation and the last 'table grape production to areas late' from the hand of Monica Gonzalez Experimental Station Cajamar Foundation.
After the talks, the visit has taken place to test persimmon (close to harvest), grape (delayed ripening), cherimoya (close to harvest), loquat (flowering), avocado (close to harvest) and handle (full collection).
In this seminar, Salvador Ardil has collected new ideas for the future for what could be an alternative work for all farmers in the municipality of Mazarrón, so far focused its production in tomato.
Japanese loquat, avocado, mango, grapes, persimmons and pomegranates are some of the fruit that have been studied as possible substitutes for tomatoes.
Mazarrón climate makes this a viable crop that is already developing in the area of Almeria.
