The mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, inaugurated this morning the restoration of the Tower of Horses Bolnuevo.
In the text have been different personalities among whom were the Director General of Tourism, Marina García Vidal, and the Councillor of Tourism, Alicia Jiménez.
This opening to the public save a great symbolism for Mazarron, this ambitious project who recovered a substantial part of its history.
It is a tower built in the sixteenth century, whose original purpose was to control the coast to the incursions Berber population which constituted a constant concern.
This trade reassured citizens in the development of fishing operations.
In later centuries, the tower underwent several renovations, some framed in the program of restoration that took place in the towers along the coast during the eighteenth.
Coinciding with the twentieth century, the Tower of the Horses was added a chapel dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, in commemoration of the famous miracle of the Virgin.
As a matter worth mentioning that the importance of the Tower of the Horses is their statement of cultural interest for the second additional provision of the Spanish Historical Heritage Act 1985.
The latest project, included in the XXI century, has seen: the restoration of the tower, inside and outside the adequacy thereof, the intervention in the outbuildings to facilitate access to the tower design of the plaza next to pre tower and a new electrical connection to the tower distinct from the Chapel of Bolnuevo.
La Torre de los Caballos needed restoration and enhancement in itself, a priority for the use and enjoyment of citizens and tourists.
Once this project has proceeded to the Consistory musealization this space by providing it with content: on the ground floor, visitors can learn the Miracle of Bolnuevo, the situation in which the municipality was the day of the Miracle and its justification and the pilgrimage, and on the first floor is the origin of the Mediterranean coastal watchtowers, the watchtowers of the Bay of Mazarrón: Santa Isabel in The Summit, The turnstile in Mazarrón and Horses in Bolnuevo, the importance of Torre de los Caballos and the process followed during its restoration.
Francisco Blaya said that "the restoration to the town of Mazarrón charged as a double meaning: to preserve our heritage and bring it to all citizens."
Pedro Alberto Cruz, who emphasized the cultural and tourist interests of the tower, the fortress is "a jewel of the historic sites of Murcia."
This action, essentially Desk, an investment of 150,000 euros from the Mazarron Tourist Consortium, consisting of the Consistory of Mazarron and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Region of Murcia.
