The wetland of mulberry trees included in the Ramsar List (10/01/2011)

The Council of Ministers approved on January 7 inclusion in the Ramsar Convention list of wetlands of international importance for its Moreras especially as Waterfowl Habitat.

The Mulberry, in Mazarrón, are formed by a lagoon system in the course of the avenue that bears the same name.

It is indescribable in its beauty spots where the rich landscape of premium natural environment.

Moreras wetlands found in the town of Mazarrón and cover an area of 58.6 hectares.

There are three lakes located in the bed of the ravine of the mulberry trees that permanently store water for the contributions of a plant, the Virgen del Milagro.

This area has become a place of great importance for wintering, migration and reproduction of about forty species of shorebirds, waterfowl, raptors and small size, such as cormorants or herons buayeras.

The flora is one of the highlights where wormwoods abound, the palm, esparto, the dawn or thyme.

This unique area was declared a protected landscape in 1992 and it is the site of the lead head, casting Leño Cala Roman quarries of gypsum and Coto Fortuna and mining for the extraction of iron.

The region has a large amount of wetlands that serve as nesting and shelter for numerous birds.

The biological richness of these areas makes them worthy of programs or forms of protection to safeguard the future of these habitats and species.

For this reason, the Wetlands Committee agreed to request that the lakes of the Moreras be included in the Ramsar List.
