This morning the President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, inaugurated the purification Cañada de Gallego accompanied by the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerda.
The new wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is part of the treatment of small cores of General Plan of cleansing and purifying of the Region of Murcia.
The plant has a treatment capacity of 1,000 cubic meters per day and includes tertiary treatment system of filtration and disinfection "perfect" treatment of wastewater.
La Cañada de Gallego treatment plant has received an investment of 1.5 billion euros.
This infrastructure is designed for a population of 2,000 inhabitants, whose economic activity is based primarily on farming and horticultural exports of tomatoes, melons and lettuce.
The Region of Murcia is the first in Spain and Europe in sanitation and water purification.
The effectiveness of water management in Murcia has been recognized nationally and internationally to be the Segura basin the only one to recover all of its wastewater.
Valcárcel has stressed "the commitment and commitment from Murcia to get the most out of the water" and added that efficient management of water resources in Murcia is an example that is moving the rest of Spain and the world " .
