Members of the Southeastern Association of Naturalists have shown how an agricultural company has undertaken the clearing of nearly fifty acres in the coastline near the village of Cañada Gallego.
The clearing has irreversibly affected the vegetation and topography of the area.
The Association has called on various authorities to investigate the facts and proceed to the restitution of land.
The Southeastern Association of Naturalists has submitted complaints to the Segura basin, the Coasts in Murcia, the Ministry of Agriculture and Water and the City of Mazarrón requesting to proceed to investigate the reclamation carried out, apparently by a well-known agricultural Mazarrón in the coastline, to allocate such land is likely to create new irrigation.
The work reported has affected an area of about fifty acres and has led to the destruction of a stretch of coast that had survived the breaks so far, even affecting portions of the maritime-terrestrial public domain.
ANSE claims that the coastal landscape has been severely affected, destroying one of the most attractive parts of the coast and visited by bathers in the municipality of Mazarrón outside protected areas.
In addition, plowing have led to the destruction irreversiblede arborescent scrub vegetation and lotus or thyme deZiziphus rich in endemic flora.
Also, the clearing has affected various species of flora protected by Decree 50/2003, such as Periploca angustifolia (cornical) and Lycium intricatum (buckthorn).
Both cadastral mapping and mapping of the 3 rd Forest Inventory highlighted the character of the mountain of the area affected by the break.
Part of the area affected is qualified in Urban Planning from Mazarrón as developable (Costa Poniente de Mazarrón), while another is listed as the General System of Open Spaces.
Around the coastal plain of Cañada de Gallego and its surroundings have been raised over recent years, various urban projects, which together with land reclamation for new intensive crops threaten to destroy a landscape that still has areas of great interest and potential for environmental recovery and not excessive tourist use.
ANSE believes that these breaks have no justification, since in the town of Mazarrón there are large tracts of agricultural land increased agronomic quality that have been abandoned or are in the process of doing so.
Given the above, the Association believes that it should open an investigation to determine responsibilities and requested appropriate to proceed to the restitution of land affected.
