The municipality of Mazarron and body components of the Civil Guard of Puerto de Mazarron since yesterday celebrated Columbus Day with a Mass held in the church of San José of the coastal town.
The Mass, celebrated by the parish priest Justo José Sánchez, paid tribute to the patron saint of Spain and the Civil Guard, the Virgen del Pilar.
A Mass was attended by the Mayor of Mazarron, Ginés Campillo, who was accompanied by First Deputy Mayor, Francisco García, Councillor for Civil Protection and Public Safety, Miguel María Encarnación, the mayor of Public Services Management Urban, Juan Miguel Muñoz, Councillor for Rural Development, Agriculture and Fisheries, Magdalena Mendez, the mayor of Social Policy, Equality and Health, Maria Martinez, and the Councillor for Citizen Participation and the Environment, David Fernandez.
Also present during the Eucharist opposition councilors Alicia Jimenez, Mary of the Angels Roman and Juan Pedro Mendez and other society figures Mazarron and family and friends of the civil guards wore their best clothes.
The celebration continued with a meal in the hotel "Playagrande" where it was playful counterpoint to the ceremony.
The day was, climatologically speaking, exceptional.
This event attracted a good number of visitors who strolled along the promenade of the Port and the town center.
Many of them even took the opportunity to take a bath because the temperature was around 30 degrees.
Some second-home residents were commenting that "now we like to go back to Mazarron these days because everything is cleaner and care."
