Two new fields are declared heritage properties (17/02/2012)

The Official Gazette of the Region of Murcia (BORM) declared goods listed two new archeological sites in the municipality for its cultural relevance.

First, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism has classified the site known as the Vulcan Cabezo Mazarron.

It is located in the hamlet of San Jose, near the town of Mazarron, and near the promenade of The Mulberry.

The site is identified by a Roman settlement in the time framed chronologically late Republican era (first century BC) and was identified as a wine storage facility.

In the archaeological area there are two sectors.

The first corresponds to the nuclear area of ​​the site, which finds the greatest concentration of archaeological material on the surface.

In the area is also located an ore open pit, although modern chronology and / or contemporary, the beginning of exploitation can be traced back to Roman times.

In addition we also find the existence of abundant Roman smelting slag.

The second sector is characterized by the spread of archaeological material.

Registration is fully represented by edges, walls, tips and amphorae funds rate "Dressel 1b" Italic provenance, along with common ceramic.

This site should be an important center for wine storage, probably from the Italian peninsula, for workers who were linked to mining.

The other property listed corresponds to the archaeological site in Punta de Nares Puerto de Mazarron.

It is located between the beaches of La Pava and Nares and situated on a rocky crag, rising about 10 meters from sea level.

The site corresponds to a Roman settlement, the initial phase of occupation dating back to the Late Bronze Recent - Old Iron.

Occupancy levels would be dating from Roman times and Tardorroma altoimperial, which contemplate from the first century AD to V

The area has documented archaeological materials such as Phoenician pottery, among which is the edge of a jar and the rim of a bowl.

Also have found several fragments of pottery and late Roman Iberian common, reflecting a continued presence in Punta de Nares from the late second millennium BC until the V century AD The site is therefore related to nearby settlements Punta de Gavilanes and Cabezo of Castellar.
