The Mayor of Mazarron, Ginés Campillo, this week signed a protocol with the Ministry of Universities and Research Company to implement energy saving measures in the municipality, which aims not only reducing consumption but also lower CO2 emissions to the atmosphere.
In this sense the protocol signed by Campillo and the head of counseling, José Ballesta, expected to emit 22,300 tons less CO2 when they develop energy efficiency projects.
The protocol contemplates saving energy in transportation and buildings both public and private, in addition to installing renewable energy in buildings through energy service companies.
What possible "that the City cheapen your electric bill, and is also kinder to the environment" as highlighted by the Mayor, Ginés Campillo.
In the transport sector, energy saving goes through promoting bicycle use, increase use of public transport and biofuels in vehicles and gradually introducing electric vehicles.
Mazarron Town Council will implement these measures in their own vehicle fleets to reduce their energy consumption, but also as an example to the public.
"In an exercise of responsibility, governments have to be the first to set an example for the gradual replacement of conventional energy with renewable" said José Ballesta, who won the support of Mayor in this regard because "we must be aware that we must know how to manage our resources and go for clean energy in order to avoid an energy crisis, "he added Campillo.
The protocol is another step after the Full Council approve the membership of the City known as the "Covenant of Mayors", by which municipalities in the region are committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 20 percent and implement renewable energy for 20% of primary energy in 2020.
This Autonomous Community is working with the municipalities through the Energy Management Agency (ARGEM).
According to this, the municipality of Mazarron consume 374,435 megawatt hours, with transport sector increased consumption.
So far there are seven municipalities (Puerto Lumbreras, Yecla, Cehegín, La Union, Torre Pacheco, Cartagena and Mazarron) that have signed this protocol for energy reduction in their territories.
