The Governing Council has adopted the definition of the protective environment of the church of San Andrés de Mazarron, historical and artistic monument of national character since 1978.
The area includes the streets and the square and adjacent buildings that face the church facade.
This measure ensures the visual protection of the church, which is declared as a Cultural category of monument.
The church of St. Andrew was built by the Marquis de Villena in the sixteenth century, and only the original nave, which highlights its coffered Mudejar type.
The rest of the building has undergone various reforms, which have given the architecture that currently provides.
Ornamentally, its interior walls are kept remains of painted decoration.
