This weekend the village of Lewis is full of joy through the festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen which began last Friday and which have involved dozens of people who did not want to miss this opportunity to share with family and friends planned activities this year.
One of the most number of visitors has had has been the exhibition "Memory. Our people Leiva 2012" which was opened by the Mayor of Mazarron, Ginés Campillo, who was accompanied by the author of the sample, Juan Francisco Belmar, and the precursor thereof, Juan Soler, who is village headman of Leiva.
The exhibition can still be seen today in the Social Hall of the hamlet, consisting of a series of photographs of neighbors Leiva surprising to those who come to see them because of its proximity and quality as well as snapshots of Juan Segura , known as John 'Silensio' which in the fifties he earned his living through the fields with his camera.
These pictures complete the exhibition whose inauguration was also attended by Deputy Mayor for Urban Development, Francisco Garcia, the mayor of Celebration, Isidro Coy, and council members Magdalena Mendez, Maria Martinez, Andrew James, Carlos Garcia, Miguel Maria Garcia and Juan Miguel Muñoz.
After the opening was held the opening speech of the holidays this year was provided by Francisco García Romero, agricultural engineer based in Totana but spent his childhood and adolescence in Leiva.
The preacher was very excited because "although I have established elsewhere, I have always felt very close to this land and its people" of which stressed "the human quality of the people living here."
Among the memories that drew a smile from those present, the preacher recalled "the jolting of the wagon in which we children climbed for a movie that was projected in the theater of La Maja (La Majada)."
At the end of the proclamation, Francisco Garcia received a plaque from the headman, Juan Soler.
But this was not the only recognition of the night as the author of the exhibition "Memoriam", Juan Francisco Belmar, also received a plaque for his photographic work.
Another of the highlights of the evening was the election of the Queens.
This year the crown of the Queen of the Festival holds the young Paqui Motorcycle Saez, who was crowned by Mayor Ginés Campillo.
Children's band Queen was for the girl Paqui Sanchez Soto, while Senior was for Antonia Sanchez Ruiz, which received a big surprise for this recognition.
The night ended with performances by the Rondalla of Mazarron and Spanish music singer Laura Muñoz, to the delight of those present.
During the weekend also raised great expectations the artist Frank Cano, whose show "It is he" fell in love with neighbors and visitors, and as usual in their actions also raised passions "The Luisos".
The tradition was also present once again to the XII Meeting of gangs involving the Morata, Marina de Cope, and Esparragal (Puerto Lumbreras), and the evening of folk verse, with the participation of the prestigious Peter troubadours Lopez Martinez "Cardoso I", Pedro López Gregorio "Cardoso II", Francisco Javier "El Floristero" Guerrero and Jose Antonio "El Andaluz".
All accompanied on guitar by Tomas Garcia.
The general tone of the party is still the high participation in all events.
In this regard it is worth noting the more than 200 people enjoyed a giant paella yesterday, or 72 pitch tournament participants has been a county record of participation in such competitions.
Also, as Mayor Ginés Campillo said, "neighbors have been recognized during the holidays thanks to the exhibition Memoriam. An absolutely deserved recognition through this great ethnographic exhibition."
The acts of these parties end on Monday 16 July, day of the feast of the Virgen del Carmen.
Starting at 7 pm Mass will be held in honor of the patron saint of Lewis in the chapel of the hamlet.
At night, from 9 o'clock, the show will feature performances of the magician "Magic Dexter" and singer Ricki "The Andalusian boy," which will be accompanied by his dancers.
