Agriculture supports the conduct of a trial for growing kiwi in Mazarron (24/12/2012)

The kiwi produced in Mediterranean areas is of higher quality than the import

The Ministry of Agriculture and Water provides technical advice on the conduct of a trial for growing kiwi in the town of Mazarrón, in the framework of the initiatives undertaken to diversify and find alternatives to growing tomatoes in this county.

The later varieties, harvested in October, are of higher quality than earlier, harvested in September.

The kiwi is a demanding crop irrigation, but only in the early stages of fruit development.

The manager said regional "varieties grown in Mazarrón extratempranas will expand the productive supply schedule, which will help farmers in the consolidation of certain markets, against foreign competitors."

Meanwhile, the five trials IMIDA cherry develops in different areas of the municipality to check the varieties best suited to each.

The Ministry has also established contacts with public and private entities to Mazarrón farmers can address the short term, new sub-culture assays (such as mango, avocado, etc.), which will take place in the warmer parts of the municipality, as Cañada de Gallego.
