The Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia (CARM), through the Department of Education, Training and Employment, has granted to the Department of Social Policy of the City of Mazarrón a grant for the implementation of a truancy program in Mazarrón municipality amounting to EUR 2944.
Last Friday began at IES Antonio Puerto de Mazarrón Hellín activities under that program.
The program consists of training and awareness activities for families whose children have problems of absenteeism in schools and after-school enrichment activities for youth.
The program will be developed by the association "La Canoa" social economy Mazarron company specializing in the training and care of minors.
The mayor of the area, Maria Martinez, has welcomed the award of this grant "which allows us more tools to intervene with teens in our town, as well as families, with the aim of obtaining training and necessary social skills that qualify in the future. "
The program will be implemented in two schools in our town, particularly in the IES "Domingo Valdivieso" de Mazarrón and the said institute "Antonio Hellin" in schedule 16 to 18 hours, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The first three sessions of each month will target youth and parents last.
The goal marked the Department of Social Policy is to generate resources and activities that can reduce rates of absenteeism and dropout in our town.
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, said that "we will continue working and requesting assistance to enable us to develop initiatives such as this, as we consider necessary the effort of all administrations to improve some aspects that are being neglected in the current economic climate and that should be the object of our effort., I mean young people and their education and training, health, the elderly and disadvantaged groups, and social protection primarily ".
