It's open enrollment period to participate in the Open International Underwater Photography "Mazarrón Bay", a photographic competition organized by the Southeast Diving Center "Bachisub" and the Federation of Underwater Activities in the Region of Murcia, thanks to collaboration and support of the City of Mazarrón and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
The event was presented yesterday in Murcia by the Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Pedro Alberto Cruz, the president of the Federation of Underwater Activities in the Region of Murcia, Jesus Cano Belchí, and the manager of the Centre Diving Southeast "Bachisub" Alfonso Bachiller.
The contest features eight prizes totaling 16,000 euros.
Open winner will receive 6,000 euros, while there will also be a second and third prize endowed with 3,000 and 1,500 euros respectively.
There are also 4 smaller prizes endowed with 1,000 euros each and a fifth of 1,500 euros which will take the diver to take the picture more representative of the seabed of the Bay of Mazarrón.
The event will be held in Mazarrón between 12 and 15 September and will bring together the best experts in this type of photography.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, said during the presentation that this Open "is called to be the underwater photography contest largest in Spain, giving prestige and publicity to our waterways and our seabed".
Cruz described as "very creative" to the City of Mazarrón by promoting activities that are very important because "campaigns like this give prestige to particular products such as diving and underwater photography, while generic campaigns today is more when unable to attract tourists. "
Thus, both as Ginés Campillo Cruz agreed that this activity, which combines sports and economic revitalization, supposed to value dive tourism in the region and strengthen its national and international promotion.

For his part, President of the Federation of Underwater Activities in the Region of Murcia, Jesus Cano Belchí explained that "underwater profile of tourists who come to the region is usually a man, aged between 20 and 50 years, and average stay is between 8 and 10 days, in the case of Spanish, and between 10 and 15 days, in the case of foreigners ".
The number of diving enthusiasts in the region continues to grow, having increased by 10 percent in the past four years, both the number of dive centers as the number of provinces.
