More than 200 adults and 150 children participated in environmental reporting activities and children, as well as performing routes, made during the month of August by the Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón in collaboration with the Association of Southeastern Naturalist (Anse), to raise awareness among the population the White-headed Duck, its habitat and the actions that are being carried out for conservation in the municipality of Mazarrón.
As explained by the mayor of the Environment, David Fernandez, "in the morning, a point of traveling environmental information was installed in different beaches of Mazarron. Moreover, various workshops were conducted for boys and girls, in which, after receiving short explanations, built his own mask of White-headed Duck and participated in various team games. Afternoon, people of all ages were on a guided tour with interpretive stops in some of the most symbolic of the mulberry Wetland and evening ended with the observation of birds in the lagoon ".
Through these activities, vacationers and residents have known the White-headed Duck, a species of endangered anátida living and breeding in the wetlands of the municipality mulberry trees for nearly a decade, and efforts made to increase the availability of physical habitat in this wetland, which has remodeled the old Wastewater Treatment Station of Mazarrón (WWTP) to join four buckets in a big pond.
These activities have been conducted under the LIFE09/ES/000516 Project "Conservation of White-headed Duck in the Region of Murcia. Spain", with 75% co-financed by European funds and into stocks, "D.1. Disclosure centers educational and social organizations "and" D.2. Sensitization Program and Information sectors of the local population. "
The Department of Environment of the City of Mazarrón is associated benefit of those actions that are being developed by the Association of Southeastern Naturalist (Anse).
