School of Mazarrón approach to mining and mineralogy 'Mazarrón mining heritage' (07/02/2014)

The People's University of Mazarrón kept open to the public exposure "Mazarrón mining heritage" that, throughout this month, will visit more than a thousand students from all schools in the county that have already confirmed their interest in conducting this activity.

This time it comes to visiting the exhibition of photographs by Juan Francisco Belmar exposed in two of the exhibition halls of Mazarrón, the Constitution Avenue and Cultural Center in the street Burial of the Sardine.

This is because the exhibition consists of two parts, one devoted to mineralogy and another dedicated to the enhancement of the mining areas of Mazarrón.

Both exhibitions have included materials that offer added value.

In the sample mineralogy also exposed about 300 samples of representative minerals Mazarrón, Murcia, the Iberian Peninsula and beyond.

These are private collections donated for the occasion by Pedro Ortiz Martínez Gómez Marble and Naphtali.

With regard to the descriptive part of the mining centers of Mazarrón, has included ethnographic material commonly used in mining, where he has enjoyed the cooperation of the Mining Museum at La Carolina (Jaén), the mining basin that shares affinities with de Mazarrón.

The activities related to the enhancement of the mining heritage of Mazarrón will be completed with the rise to the mines that some schools have asked the People's University and was eventually carried out only with students of the last years of High School students.

With this exhibition, the Department of Culture of the City of Mazarrón contributes to the dissemination and understanding of the heritage of all Mazarron and its value through that knowledge.

The exhibition will open to the public until March 9 and have already gone through it numerous groups of schools and colleges, in addition to the continuous visits Mazarron been made since it opened in November last year.

Visiting hours for the sample of minerals, which stands at the exhibition hall of the Cultural Center of Mazarrón, is 10-1 in the morning and 8-10 in the evenings.

The heritage of Mazarron, located in the hall of CIME on Constitution Avenue, open in the mornings during office hours and in the afternoon from 7-9.

The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo, stressed that "it is a very comprehensive exhibition since, in addition to value our strong mining heritage, also has a didactic character worthy of note."
