Mazarrón 264 participants gathered at the occasion of the IX Regional Day Hikers got yesterday, which this year was organized by the hiking club 'Friends of Nature' in collaboration with the Department of Sports City of Mazarrón and the Federation of Mountaineering in the Region of Murcia (FMRM).
The Mayor of Mazarrón, Ginés Campillo and FMRM president, Luis Alberto Rios, and club president Mazarron hiker, Master Jesus, were in charge of welcoming the participants.
Under a splendid weather, participants performed a first route that took them 15 miles to cross the boulevard of mulberry trees, the Cave of the Lead and saw the mulberry trees, returning to the starting point by Bolnuevo coves.
The other scheduled route, this 5 kilometers, was designed especially for children as walkers wearing the lagoons of mulberry trees, some important wetlands included in the Natura 2000 network and nesting several protected species such as White-headed Duck.
Again, the good work of Civil Protection, Local Police and Mazarrón Red Cross, as well as several club volunteers, allowed the industry was born without incident.
In addition, the local board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC) participated in the activity preparing a scrumptious chocolate for participants, giving consideration for the gesture 1 euro per delegate.
The 'Friends of Nature' passed the baton to Hiking Club Pliego, where this initiative is held next year.
