The Community declares underwater reservoir Beach in Mazarrón Island Cultural Interest (27/03/2015)

The Governing Council has approved a proposal from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities, the declaration as Cultural Interest (BIC), with the rank of Archaeological Zone, underwater reservoir Beach in Mazarrón Island, one of the few underwater sites throughout the Spanish coast relevance.

The site is located in a small bay, used as anchorage in antiquity, it is among the Cabezos of Arraez and the harbor.

Phoenician era wrecks constitute its main value and show its insertion into the cultural framework of this village enclaves on the Mediterranean coast.

The site is characterized by the presence of two boats dating from the seventh century BC the first a stretch of four meters keel a few pieces of lumber and wood is preserved with cylindrical shape seem to correspond to the ribs of the ship, and is in the National Museum of Maritime Archaeology (ARQUA).
