It has been found that the effectiveness of these corrections is one hundred percent
To date, 1,968 have been corrected with anti-electrocution support both within and outside these areas and signposted measures 13.79 km of power lines
The Directorate General for Environment, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, has made the correction of four supports on power lines of the recently declared Special Protection Area (SPA) Lagunas of mulberry trees in the municipality of Mazarrón.
In these lines death by electrocution two herons and owls last 2014. Both species are included in the list of endangered species in the Region of Murcia, in the categories of 'vulnerable' and 'special interest was detected 'respectively.
Electrocution occurs when birds use the supports of power lines as innkeepers to rest, stalk their prey or dry plumage, among other things.
To correct this support cables running above the spreaders and passed below are repositioned.
In addition, extensions that keep the elements in tension zone inn is installed.
Finally, those elements that can not be removed are isolated.
Environment found, through a LIFE project dedicated exclusively to alleviate this problem, the effectiveness of these corrections is one hundred percent.
Besides electrocution, electrical lines also conducive bird collisions against the wiring between support and support.
To avoid this, in this action has proceeded to mark out the cable with spirals, in order to make them more visible.
This is intended to reduce the risk to the community of waterfowl using these loopholes to breed, winter or during the migration step.
Among them, the white-headed duck, species for which the SPA has been declared, along with the Purple Gallinule.
The white-headed duck is declared 'endangered' on the Spanish list of endangered species.
It is a priority species for the European Union, which is currently the subject of running a LIFE project by DG Environment.
Indeed, among the results of this LIFE project are the adequacy of the old sewage lagoons Mazarrón, the declaration of this SPA and the approval of the recovery plan for the species that currently handles the Directorate General.
Other actions
This action is part of a project that includes three main actions.

The second consists in updating the database of accidents with power lines and the third represents the inventory of all electrical lines to adapt to technical requirements anti-electrocution by Royal Decree 1432/2008 for the protection of birdlife.
These lines are all not currently meet these requirements and are within Special Protection Areas for Birds or Priority Areas breeding, feeding, dispersion or local concentration of threatened birds.
As preliminary results of work the figure will be around about 10,000 supporters.
