New Appointment of catches of the species on the coast of Murcia, after those made during the summer in the lagoon of the Mar Menor.
Catches occurred last weekend on the coast of Mazarrón.
Several people have contacted ANSE to capture and report sightings of new strains of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) on the coast of Murcia.
Stresses the capture of three individuals of the species on Saturday at the mouth of the gully of mulberry trees, a wetland protected populations of endangered species like the fartet and eel.
Other citizens have informed ANSE the possible presence of the species in various parts of the bay of Cartagena, although there are no pictures or copies that will confirm that it is this species.
The presence of blue crab (Callinectes sapidus) had been confirmed in the last two years in other parts of the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula in mid-2013 in the Ebro Delta in October 2014 in the Albufera, and at the end last year in the town of Guardamar del Segura, Alicante.
More copies have been captured recently in Gandia and other parts of the Valencian coast, and is present in different parts of the Mediterranean coasts of Italy, Turkey and Greece.
This summer almost twenty specimens were captured in waters of the Mar Menor.
The blue crab or "crab" (Callinectes sapidus) is a species that can exceed 20 cm carapace, and originally inhabited areas of estuaries, coastal bays and estuaries of the American Atlantic coast, from Canada to northern Argentina.
The blue crab lives in shallow water, presenting a high resistance to high temperature and salinity changes, and eats almost everything in, from dead molluscs, crustaceans and algae fish, being a very active species with plenty of predation due to their large size and strength, especially when compared with other indigenous crabs.
Anse, if we take into account the rapid and remarkable growth of populations of blue crab in places such as Guardamar and Santa Pola, where the species appeared only two years ago, it is quite likely that some of the populations detected in the coast of the Murcia also experience rapid growth, so calls to the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment to establish the necessary measures to ensure gather all possible information on the distribution, life history and abundance of the species in our coast and their potential impact and impact on the ecosystem of the places where it has appeared, in order to try to establish the necessary measures to avoid possible negative impacts on native species.
