The regional government has approved a proposal of the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson, modification of the statement as a Cultural Interest with monument category, the Torre de Santa Isabel, Puerto Summit or with the establishment of its environment protection in the Puerto de Mazarrón
The watchtower Torre Santa Isabel or Old Port is located on a high promontory overlooking the harbor at the time of its construction and, at present, is included in the town of Puerto de Mazarrón.
Dating from the sixteenth century, and was built at the behest of King Baltasar, Genoese linked to freight traffic in the port and salt.
Its original function was to monitor the salt mines of Mazarrón.
The protective environment of this BIC is justified by the need to preserve the existing assets in this area, given the importance and cultural value of the assets that comprise it, and its definition is justified by its visual form and the environment.
Thus, the defined delimitation responds to the conservation of current visual perspective of the sector where the tower is located.
This decision has favorable reports from the University of Murcia and Real Academy Alfonso X the Wise.
