The Advisory Commission Barco Mazarrón 2, which has the presence of representatives of the Coastal, the Autonomous Community and the City of Mazarrón has agreed the Phoenician wreck removal for treatment, conservation and enhancement.
The project will be implemented after the completion of the relevant studies and reports, in 2017.
The Commission, created at the request of the City and the experts have also participated in underwater archeology and heritage, on Tuesday issued its conclusions, that advise the location and exposure of the boat, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC), in Mazarrón, in the future museum it will be located in the area closest possible to the place of discovery.
The Commission maintains that the whole process will be a research project that will improve the scientific and technical knowledge of ancient shipbuilding in the area of ​​the Western Mediterranean, and warns that, prior to the extraction step, it is essential to conduct a comprehensive study which comprise a geophysical survey and related surveys dives.
This document, once valued and validated by the Commission, will determine the scientific and technical execution of previous prospecting conditions.
It will also be the basis for the drafting of the Center for Studies and Experimentation of Public Works (CEDEX), as well as those developed by the City Council and the Community, which in turn included in the final draft that will run the Coastal State and which includes the regeneration of the Playa de la Isla and the elimination of discharges that pollute.
The Coastal Authority, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, is scheduled to take place during the first half of 2016 the study through the CEDEX and the archaeological survey was also carried out.
Hiring and drafting the final draft it is scheduled for the second half of the year and its execution for 2017.
The public exhibition of the hull, once the process of conservation and restoration should be one that reflects as closely as possible the image offered at the time of discovery, and will be presented together with their archaeological context.
Thus, the results of work done and materials remains discovered will be available to society.
The site
Boats Island Beach is one of the jewels of the Archaeological Heritage of the Region of Murcia and both underwater wrecks as site are considered of cultural interest (BIC), thereby protecting the entire area.
This site is characterized so far by the presence of two ships dating from the sixth century BC, the first a flight of 4 meters keel a lumber and wooden pieces with cylindrical shape seem to correspond to frames preserves ship, and is in the National Museum of Maritime Archaeology (ARQUA).
Boat 2 almost completely preserved in situ today, protected by a metal frame and covered with sand in order to ensure their preservation.
