Mazarrón City Council has prepared a demographic study to assess the current status of population index and forecasting needs of citizens, which has been based on recent data recorded in the municipal census.
The most significant note is the significant population growth that the town has experienced over the past 8 years, from 21,575 to 36,223 inhabitants, an increase of more than 40 percent.
Currently, foreign residents have chosen to live in Mazarrón belong to 83 different nationalities, which gives the town a multicultural range.
Moreover, it is worth noting that the country of origin with more residents in the municipality is the United Kingdom with 6,872.
Here are 3,876 Morocco, Ecuador with 2,586, Germany with 622, Romania with 239 and Poland 220.
Warm weather, food and customs are some of the reasons that bring foreigners to choose the seaside town as a destination to live year round.
Another noteworthy point of this analysis is that Mazarrón has a very young population, since only 14.6 percent of the population is over 65 years.
The data to complete this study indicate that 53.8 percent of citizens are Spanish and the rest foreigners, of whom 28,025 are community and 8,196 are outside the EU.
The figure for men is 19,331 which is 53.3 per cent and of women is 16,892 with 46.7 percent.
Tourism, immigration and the steady growth of the municipality are some of the reasons that have led to this increase in population.
