In the last plenary Mazarrón Regular City Council, the Municipal Socialist Group filed a motion for more control over public spending and a reduction of the City Council on the salaries of the Municipal Corporation.
Thus, the Socialist councilor Juan Martínez Acosta argued that due to economic circumstances through the economy in general and the particular municipality, the City Council as a body corporate closest would be the first to give an example of austerity, not further increase the tax burden as the Popular Party has made with higher taxes and fees.
For this reason, the Socialist Party called for a tax reduction and cuts in state spending, particularly in those items whose decline is not a reduction in the quality of the services that citizens receive, such as diet, protocol, etc.
To help citizens Mazarrón proposed reducing both taxes and fees by 10%, mainly in the Real Property Tax (IBI), Vehicle Tax Rate and Garbage.
It was also proposed that the City undertake an austerity plan of current expenditures, so that he is also reduced by at least 10% of the shortfall in revenue, to balance the budget, focusing particularly on the costs of mobile phones protocol, events and items of similar characteristics.
These measures should be accompanied by a control on staff costs, with special emphasis on recruitment of confidence and independent professionals.
Finally, the motion also called for a reduction in the salaries they receive both the Mayor and the rest of the council of the Corporation, as well as political groups, by 10%.
The motion was rejected, saying it could not be applied today, but with a public commitment that would be reflected in the budget requests for 2009.
