The mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, inaugurated this morning the Interpretation Centre Mazarrón Phoenician vessel, located on Avenida Tierno Galván Puerto de Mazarrón, in a unique setting along the beach of the Island
The event has been embraced by the Director General of Fine Arts and Cultural Heritage, Enrique Ujaldón, Councillor of Tourism, Alicia Jiménez, as well as the rest of the Governing Body of the City of Mazarrón, the Director of the National Museum of Underwater Archaeology (ARQUA ), Rafael Azuar, and the President of the Regional Federation of Employers of the Hospitality and Tourism (Hostemur), Soledad Díaz.
The opening session began with the discovery of the center plate by Francisco Blaya and Pedro Alberto Cruz, who visited the exhibition of Phoenician ship replica, replica Phoenician pieces and artwork, information panels and old material contained in this center, which has different elements that provide a comprehensive view on this Phoenician ship dating from the seventh century

The event continued with the screening of a two-minute audio-visual course on the Phoenician culture to the citizens and visitors to Mazarrón will delve into the history of the municipality through the Interpretation Centre Phoenician boat.
The replica Phoenician ship that can be displayed from today in Mazarron is an exact replica of one third of the length, width and depth of the original wreck.
To give substance to the model we have used the same scale of one third, used for the development of elements such as bars, the mast and the amphora.
Among the materials used in the preparation of the reply provided by the Communications and Technology Company Ltd. Ligia include the use of similar materials in the construction of the original walnut and pomegranate.
The construction system used is the same as for the original construction of the Phoenician II wreck.

The Interpretation Centre Phoenician boat has invested over 200,000 euros, financed by the Consorcio Turístico de Mazarrón, made by the municipality of Mazarron, through the Department of Tourism and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism Community Autonomous Region of Murcia.
