The importance of older people in our lives is sealed on a day like today, October 1st, which marks the International Day of Older Persons since 1991.
This celebration coincides with the first anniversary of Mazarrón Day Centre which was attended by the mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, together with the Councillor for Social Policy, Yolanda Vivancos, and the Director of the Day Centre de Mazarrón, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez , who have wrapped up the biggest party all day.
The elders have conducted an in a meal, the highlight being the proclamation of the Mayor of the Year this year has gone Gaitán García Lorenzo, who has dedicated his life to fishing.
Gaitán, has 79 years and in his long career has extensive experience as Mayor of Fisheries pattern also being Town Councillor of Mazarrón.
Francisco Blaya has had few kind words and heartfelt addressed to Mayor of the Year, who has been chosen for their contribution to the municipality in one of the most important sources of the town's economy as is fishing.
The mayor has expressed the greatest gratitude and excitement to see the significant acceptance has been the Day Center in just a year already with 1,005 active members.

In this first year of operation, partners and users of the Centre and have their own agenda with a thirty activities such as gymnastics, crafts, crafts, memory training, volunteer training, embroidery, workshop experience, dance classes living, modern, flamenco dancers, paso doble, tango, and web browsing, travel shops, reading, relaxation, drama and self help.
The active participation of the major concerns have also been noted during these 365 days in the activities proposed by the Consistory and in Bolnuevo Pilgrimage in the festivities of Mazarrón at events with the parade of floats, as well as Christmas activities and the Carnival Parade.
