The scheme sets aside 22,000 square meters of pedestrian area and includes the construction of bicycle paths, playground, fitness trails and ample space for recreation for older people

The director general of Transport and Ports, Carmen Sandoval, today announced that the Ministry of Public Works and Land Management has begun the bidding process of the improvement works of Francisco Martínez Muñoz promenades and Rihuete de Mazarrón, a project has a total budget of 4,082,716 euros.

Sandoval said that "the action concerns a stretch of 1,190 meters in length and involves the remodeling of two contiguous rides located in the town of Puerto de Mazarrón, so that improving these routes will get boost business and tourism the coastal municipality. "

The project includes the construction of a cycleway to 1,369 meters and the creation of new gardens and recreational areas, as well as the rearrangement of traffic and the creation of new parking bands Rihuete Avenue, accompanied by an improvement of access to existing parking.

In this sense, the director general stressed that "the pedestrian area will exceed 22,000 square meters, while the landscaped areas will reach the 1,170 square meters, giving a star to pedestrians and sports and leisure activities."

The project also includes the creation of a playground and a fitness trails and ample space for recreation for seniors.

Also carried out the relocation and improvement of tourist information facilities, toilets and changing rooms.

The works, which have a lead time of 16 months, also include the installation of new pavement along the two pathways and remodeling of the existing street furniture and lighting network.

Finally, Sandoval said that with these works, "the Community combines the accessibility and functionality of this urban space with new alternatives to enjoy the scenery and the coast of Murcia for the residents of the municipality and the thousands of tourists who annually visit our shores with the aim of providing a quality infrastructure to serve citizens with respect for the aesthetics of landscape, ensuring their integration into the social fabric and urban Mazarron.
